SELF-LEADERSHIP

Leading yourself is undoubtedly part of the path to becoming a good leader., because, in order to lead others, you must first learn to lead yourself.

With the rise of teleworking many things have changed, such us interactions with bosses; the new relationship through the screen has generated a certain distance and the supervisors are no longer as accessible as before.

This is not to say that there isn't a "boss" present because, there is!! And they will surely be there when someone needs their help, support or approval in some activity; support or approval in some activity. However, it is no longer like before when both were in the same office and a chat arose or things could be consulted when they ran into each other at the coffee machine..

In this new work environment, people have understood the importance of beginning to develop their own self-management skills. Everyone must take control and be responsible for their own motivation, their development and their commitment to business results.

Time management, the distribution of tasks throughout the day, the moments of rest, distraction and those of hard work became self-controlled. This sounds simple, but it´s not, since it requires new skills and behaviours that were not formerly necessary. This level of awareness and maturity requires a lot of practice and training..

¨It could be comparable to the decision of paying for a gym subscription, “If I have to have the initiative to exercise alone at home, i know i won't do anything, I simply need the pressure of being in a particular place with someone controlling me do it¨.

And in teleworking the same thing happens, That's why it's not something easy or something that anyone can do., but surely with practice, training and willingness, it can be achieved..

And once achieved, you will realise how your world changes!

All of a sudden, you can go to your child's school without having to ask for permission or you can take a vacation in an all-inclusive in the Caribbean and continue working from there. And you will notice that your life is no longer just time for work, how your productivity increases without that meaning spending extra hours working and how, little by little, everything balances out.

PRODUCTIVITY is:

  1. Learning to place time in your favour..
  2. An act of trust with your team so that they meet the results as agreed.
  3. An act of maturity so as not to disappoint the delegation received.
  4. Knowing how to balance the immediate pleasure and the long-term benefit of your actions..
  5. Awarding you “power-charging stations” during the day (10 minute breaks) to disconnect, and then keep your focus to accomplish what you must at the end of the day.
  1. Asking for help if you don't know how to manage your priorities..
  2. Learning to say “"NO" without feeling guilt”, and knowing how to negotiate deadlines.
  3. Finishing your work at the time you had planned.

The employees' ability to lead themselves is vital in the new virtual work world!!
